| The focus of the Foundation is aiding the hungry, the mentally retarded, the homeless, abused women and children, and helping needy pregnant women in delivering and caring for their infants.
The Foundation
will make grants to shelters, transitional housing and permanent
supportive housing for the homeless, as well as associated
services. The Foundation is particularly interested in
grant applications to support housing and social services for
permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless
individuals in the District of Columbia. Grants are made to promote these goals in the District of Columbia and the nearby Maryland counties. The Foundation seeks to operate in accordance with the principles of the Roman Catholic Church. In this connection, the Foundation does not support organizations sponsoring abortion. All applicants will be required to fill out the Foundation's Abortion Counseling Disclosure Statement found on the second page of the guidelines. The Margaret Abell Powell Fund of the William S. Abell Foundation makes grants to support traditional classical theater and classical ballet in the Washington, DC metropolitan area including the counties of Montgomery, Prince George's, Charles, Calvert, St. Mary's and Arlington; and the city of Alexandria. |
