Strategic Initiative to End Homelessness

Our Strategic Mission: The Foundation has committed up to $10 million to help end and prevent homelessness in the Washington, D.C. area.

Our Strategic Initiative supports programs that lead to the creation of permanent supportive housing for the chronically homeless population characterized as those with disabilities, long lengths of stays in the homeless system, and who frequently use crisis public services; and to the creation of other strategic efforts aimed at ending and preventing homelessness in our community.

Geographic Requirements:  Grant requests must be from nonprofits operating in Washington, D.C., and/or the Maryland counties of: Montgomery, Prince George's, Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary's.

No deadlines or grant limitations apply to Strategic Initiative grants:

  • Requests are reviewed throughout the year,
  • Requests may exceed funding limits set for our Foundation's regular grants and may be for multiple years, and
  • Grants are awarded only to organizations that are "public charities" as described in IRC S 509(a) (1) or (2).
