Support for Abused Women and Children
The William S. Abell Foundation supports organizations that provide services for abused women and children as part of our core mission with grants that are awarded quarterly that typically do not exceed $25,000 per grantee.
DEADLINES:
- Letters of Intent Due: December 30th, April 2nd, July 2nd, October 1st.
- Proposal Due: January 13th, April 16th, July 16th, October 15th.
Before submitting a letter of intent or application, please review the following guidelines and then go to: Am I Eligible?
Grant requests must be from nonprofits operating in:
- The District of Columbia;
- Montgomery, Prince George’s, Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties in Maryland.
The Foundation will consider applications for:
- Emergency legal and social services;
- Crisis counseling for individuals and families;
- Victim relief services;
- Health services;
- Financial assistance;
- Transitional housing;
- Other services for abused women and children.
The Foundation will not consider applications for:
- Consecutive year grants;
- Organizations that are not "public charities" as described in IRC S 509(a) (1) or (2).

CASA of Montgomery County
CASA of Montgomery County advocates for the timely placement of abused children into safe, permanent homes and for their highest quality of care while they are under the court’s jurisdiction.
CASA of Montgomery County received a grant from the William S. Abell Foundation, Inc. in March of 2011 for the recruitment, training, on-going support, and supervision of their volunteers who are appointed by the Juvenile Court judges to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused children.
Since 1987, more than 1,529 abused children in Montgomery County, Maryland have needed an advocate and CASA of Montgomery County has trained more than 1,451 volunteers to be the voice of abused children.
